Figure
1 shows a diagram of a typical datacenter with a legacy
UPS protecting processing and storage devices. Servers use clustering
and mirroring technologies, and storage devices use RAID technology
to create redundant paths so that no CPU or drive is a single
point of failure. Since the power path from a legacy UPS is
not redundant, the overall system availability is constrained
by the UPS.
