Product Overview
NS/PortfolioŽ Manager is a set of tools
that allow system and LAN administrators to install, configure,
and manage client connectivity to IBM mainframe and AS/400 hosts.
Using the standard infrastructure that comes with every Windows
9x and Windows NT desktop, NetManage has created the first IBM client
connectivity family designed to reduce the total cost of ownership
often associated with networking software.
NS/Portfolio Manager includes additional
technical documentation detailing IBM host connectivity within Windows
9x and Windows NT.
Benefits
- Dramatically reduces the cost of
using SNA client software for enterprise customers and sets a
new standard for SNA client management in the following areas:
- Pre-Installation and Configuration
- Product Rollout and Distribution
- Post-Installation and Maintenance
- Allows remote viewing, editing and
troubleshooting of Windows 9x and Windows NT workstations.
- Supports distributed installation
and setup methodologies, which further reduces time and cost of
on-site support.
Technical Administrators Guide
The NetManage Technical
Administrators Guide is included in the NS/Portfolio Manager
package. This document provides detailed information about NetManage
NS client capabilities. It is intended to be used for configuration,
rollout and maintenance of NetManage NS client installations.
The Technical Administrators
Guide also provides the following:
- Detailed installation descriptions
for Windows 9x and Windows NT network environments.
- Data link options within Windows
9x and Windows NT.
- Product Customization, configuration
and rollout detailing options to expedite workgroup up time, as
well as "cookbook recipes" for common tasks.
- Application configurations for automated
end-user needs such as desktop shell access to host screen and
file data.
- Detailed explanations for using
built in diagnostic capabilities within NetManage clients.
- Support for NetManages use
of Windows 9x and Windows NT registries, tuning TCP/IP environments
and Microsoft Systems Management Server support.
- A comprehensive glossary listing
relevant SNA connectivity terms.
Client Support
NetManage's NS clients are designed
to allow network managers to model different client needs through
Workspace folders. These Workspace definitions can then be rolled
out during end-user installation.
Existing electronic mail facilities
can be used to invoke setups and distribute configurations. Once
clients are installed, remote administration functionality allows
administrators or help desk personnel to view and edit client configurations.
No Additional Client Software
NS/Portfolio Manager manages Windows
9x and Windows NT clients using built-in operating system facilities
provided by Microsoft over industry-standard LAN environments.
Host OS Independent
NS/Portfolio Manager works independently
of IBM hosts or the operating system versions. IBM mainframe clients
and AS/400 clients can be managed regardless of the connected host
environment.
System Requirements
- Client Operating Systems. Windows
9x or Windows NT version 3.51 or later.
- IBM Host Operating Systems. Any
3270 and 5250 compliant host.
