Value and Lower Cost Access to X Application
NetManage's X OnNet
v6.0 enables Windows users to access and use powerful X applications
such as CAD/CAM, finite element modeling, financial analysis, database
administration, production planning, inventory control, and purchasing.
Best of all, X OnNet
brings this added compute power to PC users at a reasonable cost.
X OnNet harnesses the computing power of UNIX workstations
while maximizing existing investments in desktop systems. Using
X OnNet on the desktop and a high-performance UNIX server to
provide centralized access to UNIX applications allows companies
to use lower-cost PCs instead of more expensive UNIX workstations.
By leveraging the multitasking and processing power of the server,
powerful UNIX X applications that require large amounts of
RAM can be viewed, controlled, and manipulated from Windows desktops.
From the user's perspective,
an application appears to be running locally on the PC, when processing
is actually taking place on the UNIX system.
New Web Integration
and Browser Access
X OnNet is fully-compliant
with X11R6.3 standards to integrate the X environment with Windows
and Web environments. Using a Web browser plug-in, X applications
can be remotely configured, managed, and accessed through a Web
browser. Network administrators can now create customized Web pages
with links to X applications. Users then simply click on a
pre-defined link to launch the appropriate X application. X OnNet
allows Windows NT, Windows 95, and Windows 98 users
to access the same Web site and the same X applications.* Using
the Web as a launching pad for X applications eliminates the
tedious task of configuring each user's desktop for specific X applications
and minimizes training time. End users no longer need to set up
their own X applications. This means fewer troubleshooting
calls to help desk resources and lower maintenance costs.
*Not applicable for
Windows 3.1x environments.
Easy to Install
and Use
Choose desktop or server
installation. For desktop installation, set up procedures guide
users through a few simple steps and automatically configures X OnNet
to the appropriate Windows system. X OnNet allows creation
of desktop icons for frequently used X applications. Users
can then simply point and click on an icon to access the server-based
X application.
Server-based installation
and easy-to-use configuration tools make software distribution and
upgrades a simple task. Seamless Windows integration and context-sensitive
help make UNIX access easy for users of all abilities.
Cut and Paste
Text and Graphics
With X OnNet, PC users
can cut and paste information between UNIX and Windows applications.
Users simply select a text block or graphic, copy it, and then paste
it into a Windows application or into a UNIX application.
