The Magnum 800E provides a low cost, flexible solution for networking
a small workgroup or for adding additional nodes to an existing
Fast Ethernet network via category 5 twisted pair cabbling. The
Magnum 800E Workgroup Hub has eight front-mounted, shielded RJ-45
ports and one rear-mounted bonus slot which many be configured
with a variety of media solutions including full-duplex fiber and
10BASE-TX. The left-most RJ-45 port is equipped with a slide switch
to allow cascading or an up-link without a crossover cable. Workgroup
Hubs may also be configured with any Switching Port Module (SPM)
in the rear bonus port.
Magnum 800E hubs have been engineered to have significantly lower
delay values in all of the front ports than the industry
standard (60BT rather than 95BT). This lower delay value allows
for three 800Es to be cascaded for greater network configurability.
This unique feature essentially makes the Magnum 800E a "Class
3" hub.
A unique bonus port on each unit can be configured for different
media and segmentation options including full-duplex fiber and
switched 10Mb/s twisted pair (application
example). Both switching and repeater port modules are available.
This option eliminates the need for a separate switch or hub. Garrett Communications has also developed a 48 Volt DC option
that is available for the Magnum 800E. This is a solution already
widely applied in the telecommunications industry and will allow
a firm to maintain operations in the event of a power failure.
