N-PLEX GLOBAL
Internet Server for Large Organizations
and Service Providers
N-PLEX Global is a scalable, high-performance
Internet server software solution designed for commercial service
providers and large organizations with high-end messaging requirements.
N-PLEX Global features a distributed message store architecture
that handles millions of users across multiple servers within
a single domain. This distributed architecture provides maximum
performance and reliability for multiple servers clustered in
a central location, or geographically distributed across multiple
locations.
The Manage Service
Provider Solution
Developed with a strong emphasis on management and security, N-PLEX
Global addresses the specific requirements of service providers
and organizations with high-volume messaging environments. The
centralized administration interface, called the ISOCOR Management
Center, is easy to use, yet provides sophisticated capabilities
that include multi-level system administration, message store
management facilities, message filtering, performance monitoring,
and message archiving.
For managing multiple servers, N-PLEX Global has extensive remote
management facilities for installation and upgrade of software
components, configuration, stopping and starting of services,
log file analysis, and SNMP monitoring. Additionally, Web-based
administration utilities allow users and administrators to perform
simple routine tasks from a standard Web browser. For simplified
management of mailing lists, a List Management Agent allows users
to easily subscribe to or delete themselves from mailing lists.
Scalable, High-Performance
Messaging
N-PLEX Global features a multi-threaded architecture that natively
supports the latest Internet standards for SMTP, MIME, POP3, IMAP4,
HTTP, and LDAP. The scalable architecture allows you to easily
expand your environment with additional servers and components.
N-PLEX Global consists of the following core components:
High-Performance Internet (SMTP)
Mail Server. Allows fast, reliable handling of incoming and
outgoing messages. Multiple servers may be configured in clusters
to distribute messaging traffic.
Distributed POP3/IMAP4 Message
Store. Robust, large-scale message store seamlessly supports
both POP3 and IMAP4 clients simultaneously across multiple servers
in a distributed configuration.
Directory Services. Powerful,
high-speed LDAP Directory server and X.500-compliant Directory
services access user addresses and routing information. Directory
information is easily accessible via LDAP, X.500, and HTTP using
a standard Web browser.
A number of product options are
available to extend the functionality and capabilities of N-PLEX
Global, including server-based virus scanning to enhance the integrity
of the user environment.
Virtual Private
Network
N-PLEX Global allows you to create a virtual private network within
a service provider or large corporate environment. Within this
virtual private network, you can establish administration and
access rights on a per-domain basis. Subscribers can manage user
accounts and perform routine administration tasks without assistance
from the service provider. Additional virtual private network
features and services can also be incorporated to provide enhanced
value-added services.

High Performance
Internet Mail Server
N-PLEX Global features superior message handling with an Internet
Mail Server (SMTP MTA) designed for fast, high-volume switching
of incoming and outgoing messages. The Internet Mail Server accepts
incoming messages, looks up user routing information in the Global
Directory Server, and routes the messages to the appropriate message
store. The Global Directory Server contains user names, addresses,
and other relevant information. The Internet Mail Server uses
DNS or static routing information, as configured by the administrator
in the ISOCOR Management Center, to relay outgoing messages and
deliver them to remote hosts.
You can also configure N-PLEX Global
as an application gateway firewall. This allows you to filter
incoming SMTP messages and limit access by IP address. For example,
you can configure the server to exclude a list of addresses to
help prevent unsolicited e-mail (spamming) and enhance access
control.
Distributed
POP3/IMAP4 Message Store
N-PLEX Global features a robust, large-scale
message store designed to handle millions of users, distributed
across a large number of messaging servers, within a single domain
and across multiple domains. The integrated POP3/IMAP4 message
store enables simultaneous access and transparent migration of
POP3 and IMAP4 clients, and supports encryption for authenticating
users. The IMAP4 features include synchronization with off-line
mobile clients, extensive text searching facilities, and shared
folder support.
Global Directory
Services
N-PLEX Global utilizes a common directory called the Global Directory
Server that stores user addresses, provides routing information,
and unifies the components in the environment. The Global Directory
Server supports LDAP for directory access and features an
X.500-compliant Directory that provides high-speed access to users,
message routing information, and other relevant directory information.
Alternatively, you can use the integrated LDAP Internet Directory
server for storing user names and addresses in environments where
a distributed message store configuration is not needed or implemented.
The Global Directory Server uses
the following protocols to provide a distributed directory service:
LDAP for client access, DAP (Directory Access Protocol) for N-PLEX
Global routing information, DSP (Directory System Protocol) for
forwarding requests to remote directory servers and obtaining
results, DISP (Directory Information Shadowing Protocol) for replicating
information between servers, and HTTP for access from Web browsers.
The Web/Directory gateway facilitates
access to LDAP and X.500 Directory information from a standard
Web browser, and utilities allow you to import and export data
to other applications, including user registration from other
mail systems.

Flexible, Global
Enterprise Configurations
For extended configurations, you can use N-PLEX Global with other
server solutions in the N-PLEX Product Family:
N-PLEX Office for small businesses and organizations,
N-PLEX Enterprise for corporate Internet/intranets, and
N-PLEX Hub for connectivity and integration of heterogeneous mail
environments.
For service providers and telecommunications
organizations, the extensive management capabilities provide value-added
system administration services. The unique remote management features
of the N-PLEX Product Family allow you to install N-PLEX Office
and N-PLEX Enterprise in a CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) configuration
and centrally manage them with N-PLEX Global. This configuration
allows N-PLEX Office and N-PLEX Enterprise to reside in remote
office locations and minimizes system administration requirements.

Reliable, Available
Messaging Services
N-PLEX Global is designed to ensure continuous availability and
data consistency. To enhance system availability and prevent interruption
of service, you can implement fault-tolerant configurations for
your environment, such as disk mirroring and redundant servers.
The Global Directory Server also
allows fully redundant configurations with automatic replication
of directory contents in the event of system failure. A database
backup and restore utility with a roll-back and roll-forward feature
quickly recovers data and restores data integrity.
N-PLEX Global servers can be monitored
from other management centers that use SNMP, allowing integration
with existing network monitoring for routers and other network
components.
Application
Programming Interfaces
ISOCOR offers APIs and protocols separately, to allow customization
of N-PLEX Global and integration with other applications and systems.
Submission API. Enables platform
and language-independent Internet mail access.
Message Filtering API. Provides
filtering and processing of SMTP messages by another program.
Mail Agent API. Allows the development
of mail agents to carry out actions described in the message and
return results in a reply message.
Gateway API. Enables the attachment
of external gateways for message conversion.
Additionally, PLEXLINK POP3 Provider,
a MAPI POP3 service provider, enhances the ability of N-PLEX servers
to integrate into existing environments where proprietary MAPI-based
mail clients may be in use. This provides POP3 connectivity for
clients such as Exchange, Outlook, cc:Mail®, and
GroupWise.
