PLEXLINK™

PLEXLINK is a comprehensive suite of components that provides state-of-the-art messaging, directory, and electronic commerce capabilities to any MAPI-enabled desktop application. By allowing users to embed ISOCOR&REG’s ISOPRO™ or many other popular LAN e-mail clients into business applications, PLEXLINK also provides the foundation for message-enabling office applications across corporate or public data networks. PLEXLINK gives you the power to connect any Extended MAPI-based client application to the Internet and/or X.400 servers.

A Rich Set of Components and Options
Each PLEXLINK product includes a messaging client, ISOPRO for MAPI, and messaging service providers that link the desktop with server-based facilities. PLEXLINK service providers include:

  • PLEXLINK POP3 Provider: Allows any POP3 mailbox to be used with any MAPI messaging client or application, and includes support for the latest Internet secure login protocol (APOP) and delivery status notifications (DSNs).
  • X.400 Mail: An X.400 transport provider that can be used with ISOCOR’s ISOPLEX™, N-PLEX™, or any X.400-compatible messaging server, both over local (P1) and remote (P7) protocols. A comprehensive set of 1988 X.400 features is also available for any Extended MAPI-compliant user agent.
  • X.500 Directory Access: An X.500 provider that links messaging clients and applications to globally distributed databases such as ISOCOR’s Global Directory Server (GDS) for addressing information and other data.

Integrate the Desktop and the Internet
The Internet has been evolving sets of standards that address commercial concerns such as delivery notification and secure login. By making it possible to inform a sender that the recipient has received a message, delivery status notification (DSN) has eliminated a major barrier to commercial deployment of the Internet. Prior to the development of the Authenticated Post Office Protocol (APOP), login passwords to mail accounts were circulated around a network in an unencrypted form, which made them extremely easy to misappropriate. The PLEXLINK POP3 Provider module supports both these protocols, as well as MIME encoding, which makes it possible to reliably send file attachments with Internet mail messages.

The DSN and APOP capabilities need to be supported both on the server and on the client. N-PLEX, ISOCOR’s award-winning, high performance Internet mail server, supports both capabilities. Organizations using PLEXLINK, in conjunction with N-PLEX and ISOPLEX, can take full advantage of a “dual native” strategy using PLEXLINK POP3 Provider for regular Internet mail and the X.400 service for mission-critical, confidential or commercial traffic.

Ready for Global Use
PLEXLINK service providers support a rich set of extended characters, including USASCII, Norwegian, West European, East European, ISO 8859-3, ISO 8859-4, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Arabic, Greek, and Latin sets. Users in any location can take advantage of the worldwide Internet without having to accept any character support-related compromises.

Comprehensive Server Support
PLEXLINK products interoperate with all ISOCOR server products including ISOPLEX, the high performance 1988 X.400 message server, and N-PLEX, the award winning SMTP/MIME message server.

ISOPRO for MAPI, the messaging client included within PLEXLINK, also supports third-party messaging servers such as Microsoft’s Exchange™ Server through a range of ISOCOR or third-party modules.

High Performance for Power Users
For power users and those who have been tracking the evolution in usability standards associated with Windows 95™, PLEXLINK comes complete with all the latest enhancements. Usability features include:

  • Extensive “drag and drop” capabilities
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Context-sensitive right mouse button commands
  • Rich configuration options using tabbed dialog boxes
  • ToolTips to enhance usability
