RightFAX PDF/PScript Module
for Macintoshbased or graphics intensive enterprises.
With this module, a RightFAX v6.0 server can interpret Adobe PostScript®
or PDF documents and convert them to fax format. Automatic language
switching between PCL and PostScript means that no user intervention
is required. Its a great solution for mixed Mac/PC environments.
PostScript is an interpreted programming
language created by Adobe Systems, Inc. in the mid-1980s.
It is a page description language with a rich set of graphic operators
which makes it ideal for printing graphics and text. Many companies,
especially those that have large Macintosh installations, have standardized
on PostScript printer drivers. The RightFAX PScript Module now offers
these users the ability to print their documents directly to the
RightFAX print queue using PostScript drivers. This functionality
is available in addition to PCL document conversion (RightFAX standard)
and in no way limits it.

| Installation |
|
To install the RightFAX
PScript Module, insert the diskette and type a:\setup from a DOS prompt.
The RightFAX Smart Install will prompt you to select which WorkServer
you wish to execute the PScript process. If RightFAX E-mail Gateways
are present on the server, Smart Install will automatically detect
them and update them with PostScript conversion capabilities.
The module installs interpretation
and conversion capabilities in the \RIGHTFAX\WORKSRV(#) directory
and creates an additional directory called \RIGHTFAX\FONTS to store
font information. Because text characters are viewed as graphic
objects, the RightFAX PScript Module includes several different
font types. Supported fonts include 35 basic PostScript fonts (Times,
Helvetica, Courier, Symbol, etc.). A complete list of these commercial-quality
Type 1 fonts can be found in the file FONTMAP in the
\RIGHTFAX\FONTS directory. You can add additional fonts or change
font substitution rules by editing the FONTMAP file.

| Printing
Documents to the RightFAX Print Queue |
|
In order to print documents
from a native application to the RightFAX print queue, users must
install a PostScript driver and connect it to the RightFAX print queue
used for faxing (usually HPFAX). RightFAX recommends the use of standard
PostScript printer drivers such as the Apple LaserWriter drivers.
We do not recommend the use of HP emulators like the HP LaserJet PS
drivers. |
