Description
The Model 288 RS-232 Total Interface Isolation Module delivers complete
full-duplex electrical isolation between two RS-232 devices in both
asynchronous and synchronous modes. For applications in which clock
signals are required, the Model 288 provides additional clock pins
to keep data flows properly synchronized between two connected devices.
Isolation is critical to maintain data accuracy by eliminating signal
noise and protecting equipment against damage from electrical surges
and differences in ground current voltages. The Model 288 achieves
total electrical isolation for up to 2000 V through the use of independent
opto couplers.
Using industry standard DB-25 male connectors (for DTE port connections
to DCE devices such as a dial-up modem) and female connectors (for
DCE port connections to DTE devices such as a terminal or PC), the
Model 288 drives RS-232 signals up to 750 ft over copper cable at
speeds up to 38.4 kbps. The unit's maximum data rate is 115.2 kbps,
allowing it to perform reliably in even high-data-rate applications.
Powered by a wall-mounted 110 VAC transformer, the unit is equipped
with a built-in isolated DC-to-DC converter that provides operating
current for both the DTE and DCE sides of the Model 288.
