Product Description

The Model 24 is a full featured lightning protector for RS-232 ports. It protects Pins 2, 3, and 7 and uses DB25 connectors for input/output. The Model 24 employs gas tubes and 1,500 Watt avalanche diodes with inductive isolation. The Model 24 is unique in that it is symmetrical and contains a double set of gas tubes so that regardless of how the unit is installed, gas tubes will always be placed on the line side susceptible of surge pickup.

The Model 24 has a separate earth ground connection stud which is also connected to Pin 1. The Model 24 is supplied with an eight foot long, #12 gauge ground wire to connect the lightning sponge to a cold water pipe or ground wire on an AC outlet.

High voltage transients caused by lightning or other electrical disturbances can easily destroy semiconductor junctions and cause equipment failure. The Model 24 Lightning Sponge is designed to accept these transients, slow them down and redirect them to a low impedance path to earth ground.The DC series resistance of each protection circuit is limited to approximately 5 Ohms and the response time is measured in nanoseconds.
