Product Description
The Model 27A1 & A2 lightning/surge suppressors protect all 24 signal
lines in the industry standard DB-25 connector. This connector is used
univer-sally for RS-232 and now for the new communica-tions interface
known as EIA-530 that uses RS-422 signals. The problem of surge suppression
continues to grow as the use of PC systems and their peripher-als expands.
The Model 27A contain 600 watt semiconductor protection circuits for
each of the 24 lines. These circuits dump surges to a central ground
lug on the bottom of the unit. A heavy gauge wire is then used to conduct
the surge to a good earth ground. The protection devices will operate
in less than 5 nano-seconds thereby saving the attached device from
damage due to the transient.
Since RS-232 and EIA-530 have different voltage requirements, Telebyte
offers two versions of the protector. The Model 27A1 is used for EIA-530,
which operates with RS-422 voltage levels, while the Model 27A2 is used
with RS-232. The Model 27A1 can also be used for MIL-STD-188-114.
The Series 27A is packaged in a small plastic case and contains male
and female DB25 type connectors allowing the Model 27A to be placed
directly in-line. The ground lug accepts a spade push and terminal crimp
which is supplied.
