Product Description
The Model 287 miniature Opto Isolated RS-232 to RS-422 Interface Converter
is packed with features and capability. The Model 287 does not require
a separate AC or DC input, however, the power required is extracted
from the RS-232 interface. This power is further conditioned and isolated
to develop an isolated power supply to operate the link side of the
interface converter. The Model 287 includes a DB9 female connector to
allow it to be directly attached to any PC com port. A DTE/DCE switch
allows reversing the transmit data and receive data signals should the
Model 287 be required to interface to a different type of port. The
control signals are also used as a power source. Data is accommodated
at rates up to 19,200 BPS. The opto barrier is rated to withstand four
kilovolt discharges onto the RS-422 link cables. The link interface
is implemented in an RJ-12 modular connector. The Model 287 is housed
in a small plastic case. The Model 287 has capability to withstand the
high voltage transients using semiconductor circuitry which detects
high voltage transients and directs them through a safe path to ground.
The path in the Model 287 includes a ground stud to which is affixed
a 12 inch ground wire connection composed of a 10 AWG wire with lug
terminals. The Model 287 will withstand a 4 kilovolt discharge with
the ground connection.
