The Model 79 is a cage mounted dual short haul modem that incorporates a bi-directional handshake signal in addition to full duplex data transmission and, supports links with the stand-alone short haul modem, Model 224. Each modem contains TD, RD, DTR and DCD indicators. DTR and DCD indicators represent the status of the handshake signal. Each modem is equipped with an internal DTE/DCE switch that allows the reversing of Pins 2 and 3 of the RS-232 connectors on the Model 76-3 Card Cage.The loopback switches are used for trouble-shooting. When depressed the two twisted pairs are disconnected from the modem circuitry and looped back for the signal from the remote modem. At the same time the signal from the local device is passed through the modem circuits and looped back upon itself for visual verification.Specifications for the Models 224 and 79 are the same except for power and physical size.
