Product Description

The Model 8321, RS-485 Link Extender, provides opto isolation and extension of an RS-485 network from 3,000 feet, 1 KM, to 6,000 feet, 2 KM. This extension is performed for master slave half duplex networks operating up to 38.4 KBPS. In addition to extending the distance the Model 8321 allows adding 32 more devices to the network, for a total of 62, thus breaking the 32 device limit imposed by RS-485.

An internal microcontroller manages the protocol on the lines on both sides of the opto barrier. Dip switches are provided for the user to enter data rate and byte format to be used by the microcontroller. Additional switches offer a broad range of line termination options.

Data activity is displayed on TD and RD LED's. Power for the Model 8321 circuitry is developed from an on board power supply. The user supplies 110 Volt, 60 Hz, or 220 Volt, 50 Hz.

The Model 8321 is packaged in a standard DIN Rail package and easily snaps onto a 35mm DIN Rail.
