MDS RJ-to-DB-9/25 Cable & Adapter Information

The MDS series of versatile data switches provides a convenient means
for connecting multiple RS-232 devices, collecting and polling data from
remote sites and multiplexing data from multiple input sources. MDS ports
can be individually configured in (3) distinct modes of operation:
· Any-port to Any-port
When ports are configured in the "Any-to-Any" mode, communication
is allowed between connected devices, regardless of dissimilarities between
baud rate or parity. Any-to-Any ports can be connected to any other port
by issuing simple ASCII connect commands. All MDS ports can be configured
for Any-to-Any operation, allowing matrix connectivity of up to 16 RS-232
devices. Multiple MDS units can also be connected to expand the number
of connected ports.
· Buffer Mode
Individual MDS ports con be configured as "Buffer-Mode" ports
which allow for the collection and storage of data received from connected
devices. Collected data can be retrieved by entering simple ASCII commands
to poll the buffered data. The MDS contains a dynamically allocated battery-backed
buffer which will safely store collected data until polled.
· Mux Mode
The MDS also allows selected ports to operate in a data multiplexing
or "Mux Mode". The Mux Mode allows data from several sources
to be directed to a common port. Data can be collected from connected
devices and sent to a common host PC. The MDS will also stamp a port ID
from each incoming data string to identify it's port of origin.
