- Console Management
Switch
- UNIX system admins: you can
Telnet over Ethernet to up to 16 RS-232
console ports.
|
The Avocent CPS is an appliance-like Telnet server
that provides administrators with a centralized
means to access serially managed devices through
access at the rack or access over IP connections. A
single 100BaseT port provides Telnet to
RS-232 network
connectivity and 8/16 serial ports provide
attachment to managed devices.
In conjunction with DS1800
and other AVOCENT solutions, the CPS product line
offers a full range of KVM and console connectivity
to servers and serial devices in the data center.
Combined with Avocent's new SPC800 and SPC1600 power management
over IP devices, you can have total control of
devices in your data center.
As part of the DS
Series, Avocent's DSView Windows
application provides centralized management of the
CPS network appliance.
With DSView, you can access all of your data center
devices from a single screen, making complex
network access and control remarkably easier. For
added user security, Avocent's DSAuth user
authentication software stores permissions,
topology and per-device contact information for the
DS Series. It also performs third party
authentication during connection to the switch.
Note: DSView and DSAuth are sold separately.
Features
- vCONSOLE 1.x, which ships
free with each CPS, is a point and click utility
that simplifies device discovery, access and
control. vConsole is a Java application that has
been tested across a wide range of Unix, Linux
and Windows platforms. VConsole provides a
built-in Telnet client and interfaces directly
with the system default browser
- Intuitive: vConsole and
DSView provide you with an intuitive tree view
interface to locate and access your data center
devices. With support for custom labels and
icons, it is no longer necessary to recall
cryptic machine names and IP addresses to locate
and access devices. Ease of access is further
enhanced through built-in Telnet client and
browser interfaces
- Field upgrades: On-board
support for TFTP makes it possible to upload new
functionality to CPS units deployed in the
field
- CPS devices provide connectivity to devices
such as: servers, routers, Power management
devices, Telco and network switches, firewalls
and DSLAMs
