AVTECH Installation Note

Room Alert Flood Extender

The Flood Sensor Extender provided with Room Alert is ‘Volt-Free’.

Instructions For Installing The Flood Sensor Extender

The Flood Sensor Extender has four nickel coated screws on its base which detect the presence of water or other fluids. The unit must be located so that it sits squarely on the floor where the flooding is most anticipated and desired to be detected.

Sensor cable can be any low voltage cable such as bell wire, speaker cable, data cable or telephone cable. Minimum voltage insulation 50v, minimum current carrying capacity 1A. Maximum length is approximately 150 feet for the greatest reliability.

The Flood Sensor Extender connects to a single contact set on the Room Alert ID Box or Room Alert external Flood Sensor. Use sensor cable to chain additional flood sensor extenders to the first unit, making sure that they are wired ‘in-line’ with the inductor wires which join each pair of terminal posts ( see below) . Flood extenders must sit where flood detection is expected.

Flood Sensor Extender

Multiple Flood Sensor Extenders can be ‘chained’ as shown here to allow use of multiple extenders with a single contact set on any model of Room Alert ID Box.

Testing The Flood Sensor

To test the Flood Sensor Extender after setup, use a small piece of wire to connect ‘across’ either pair of the terminal posts on the Flood Sensor Extender. This completes the circuit on the leads that connect to the ID box and will trigger an alert from PageR Enterprise if set up properly and the short circuit is made for a period of time longer than the cycle length defined for the monitored object flood conditions. Testing of the Flood Sensor Extender should be carried out on a regular or periodic basis, such as once per month or quarter to verify the integrity of the installation.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

THE SCREW CONNECTORS ON THE SENSORS AND ROOM ALERT INTERFACE (ID) BOXES ARE VOLT-FREE CONTACTS ONLY. DO NOT CONNECT THESE TERMINALS TO ANY LIVE CIRCUIT. A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN MUST TEST ANY WIRES YOU CONNECT TO THE ROOM ALERT PLUS ID BOX FOR THE PRESENCE OF ELECTRICAL VOLTAGES AND IF ANY ARE DETECTED, THEY MUST NOT BE WIRED TO THE ID BOX. THE ID BOX MAY BECOME DANGEROUS IF YOU CONNECT IT TO A LIVE CIRCUIT. DISCONNECT THE SENSOR INTERFACE FROM THE PC BEFORE WIRING ANY SENSORS TO IT. NEVER CONNECT MAIN POWER TO ANY OF THE ROOM ALERT SENSORS.
