AVTECH Installation Note

Room Alert Humidity Sensor

The Humidity Sensor provided with Room Alert is ‘Volt-Free’.

Instructions For Installing The External Humidity Sensor

The mounting and electrical connections require the faceplate to be removed. To remove the faceplate, use a small flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the circular humidity dial. This reveals a small Phillips head screw that needs to be unscrewed to allow removal of the faceplate.

Removing the faceplate reveals the electrical screw connectors to which the sensor cable is connected. There are three Phillips head screws in a row. This is because the device allows for a changeover contact to be used where appropriate.

Connect the sensor cable to the two outside screws. Leave the middle screw unconnected. Run the wire out the back of the unit to the Room Alert ID Box. Use the mounting holes in the back on the Humidity Sensor to mount the unit to the wall.

Note: The Sensor Cable connects to two outside screws (1 and 2) on the 3 screw cluster (see above).

Sensor cable can be any low voltage cable such as bell wire, speaker cable, data cable or telephone cable. The minimum current carrying capacity is 1A. The minimum voltage insulation is 50v. There is NO VOLTAGE or polarity associated with the connections.

The Humidity Sensor dial is normally set a few degrees above the normal ambient room temperature. To simulate (test) an alert condition, turn it down to its lowest setting.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

THE SCREW CONNECTORS ON THE SENSORS AND ROOM ALERT INTERFACE (ID) BOXES ARE VOLT-FREE CONTACTS ONLY. DO NOT CONNECT THESE TERMINALS TO ANY LIVE CIRCUIT. A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN MUST TEST ANY WIRES YOU CONNECT TO THE ROOM ALERT PLUS ID BOX FOR THE PRESENCE OF ELECTRICAL VOLTAGES AND IF ANY ARE DETECTED, THEY MUST NOT BE WIRED TO THE ID BOX. THE ID BOX MAY BECOME DANGEROUS IF YOU CONNECT IT TO A LIVE CIRCUIT. DISCONNECT THE SENSOR INTERFACE FROM THE PC BEFORE WIRING ANY SENSORS TO IT. NEVER CONNECT MAIN POWER TO ANY OF THE ROOM ALERT SENSORS.
