AVTECH Installation Note
Room Alert Power Sensor
The External Power Sensor provided with Room Alert is ‘Volt-Free’.
Instructions For Installing The External Power Sensor
The external Power Sensor is a power sensing device specially designed with additional electronics that allow it to interface with a Room Alert ID Box. An attached power adapter connects it to the power circuit being monitored.
Connect the sensor cable to the two terminal posts on the Power Sensor. Then run the sensor cable back to the Room Alert ID Box and connect it to an input channel via the connectors. Next, connect the power adapter’s circular low voltage lead to the input socket on the Power Sensor. Finally, plug the low voltage power adapter into the power source being monitored, normally the input side of the main UPS (or a main circuit). With this configuration, an alarm will be generated if the UPS loses main power access and switches to battery backup.

Sensor cable can be any low voltage cable such as bell wire, speaker cable, data cable or telephone cable. Minimum voltage insulation 50v, minimum current carrying capacity 1A. There is no 'voltage' or 'polarity' associated with the Power Sensor connectors.
To test the Power Sensor and determine if it is working properly, turn off the power source or unplug the connected power adapter. Loss of power will be recognized by the Power Sensor and generate an alarm.
The PageR Enterprise software supporting the Room Alert ID Box will receive an alarm signal and send out alert notification or start automatic corrective action, depending upon how it has been set up.
Managers should test the Power Sensor on a regular basis, at least monthly or quarterly, to assure the proper setup is maintained.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE
THE SCREW CONNECTORS ON THE SENSORS AND ROOM ALERT INTERFACE (ID) BOXES ARE VOLT-FREE CONTACTS ONLY. DO NOT CONNECT THESE TERMINALS TO ANY LIVE CIRCUIT. A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN MUST TEST ANY WIRES YOU CONNECT TO THE ROOM ALERT PLUS ID BOX FOR THE PRESENCE OF ELECTRICAL VOLTAGES AND IF ANY ARE DETECTED, THEY MUST NOT BE WIRED TO THE ID BOX. THE ID BOX MAY BECOME DANGEROUS IF YOU CONNECT IT TO A LIVE CIRCUIT. DISCONNECT THE SENSOR INTERFACE FROM THE PC BEFORE WIRING ANY SENSORS TO IT. NEVER CONNECT MAIN POWER TO ANY OF THE ROOM ALERT SENSORS. |
