Device Alarm Monitoring
Data Track's Device Alarm Monitoring solution is a maintenance tool that can provide an operational overview of system or equipment performance, 24 hours a day, and informs you of any alarm conditions that may occur. This ensures maximum equipment availability, minimum system downtime and consequently, improved customer service levels.

Data Track's Eclipse AMS software provides the easy to use front end onto your network. Hardware probes are attached to the equipment that will be monitored and controlled. Our solution will automatically detect, filter and report real alarm data, in addition to events. This enables the centralized reporting of information, using non-specialist staff in large or small multi-vendor mixed networks. Reported alarms can be actively managed, initiating call-outs to service engineers when necessary, as well as providing remote access, so that further investigation or remedial action can take place without a site visit.

Pro-Active Monitoring

Fitting our Device Alarm Monitoring solution enables permanent surveillance of a whole variety of multi-vendor equipment, providing peace of mind to both customers and service providers.

Hardware probes are fitted to your equipment and programmed to passively record or pro-actively interrogate connected devices for alarm conditions. Connecting monitored devices via one of these probes will ensure that the integrity of the existing network is not compromised. A probe can support connections to devices via Ethernet, serial and digital inputs.

The probes can report to one or more, local or remote management systems, using any of its Ethernet, serial or PSTN/GSM modem interfaces. Once detected, alarms can be filtered by severity, duration, time of day, day of week or rate of occurrence. Application or equipment specific scripts can be added to the solution to take positive action in response to alarm conditions.

Data Track's solution pro-actively ensures that your network equipment is responding to commands. As well as routinely interrogating equipment for alarm conditions, the probe can be set to periodically 'ping' equipment or applications to check that their status is still active. The probe itself can be configured to routinely provide a health check, which is one less piece of equipment for you to worry about.

An additional benefit of the solution is that it can accommodate the detection of ASCII data alarms, digital contact closures or unsolicited SNMP traps from managed devices. Alarms can be reported to a central management system either as simple ASCII messages or SNMP traps using UDP across a LAN/WAN, or a GSM / PSTN dial-up network connection.

Alarm Response

Each alarm condition can be given a severity rating and up to five lines of freeform text, which can be used to describe the action to be taken on receipt of the alarm. Individual alarm conditions can be grouped together in order to simplify the representation of sites, customers, geographical regions, networks or any combination of these. User/password authority is assigned to each group to restrict access. When an alarm is received, dockets are presented on-screen to every logged-on user who has the permissions to monitor that particular alarm site.
Engineer Response

Contact details of the engineers who will be responding to alarms or events are stored. Every site can have a number of different duty rotas, each with its own shift pattern. These are used by the system to call out the correct duty engineer assigned to the site at the time of the alarm condition.

Alarms can be re-broadcast to a duty engineer's pager or mobile telephone using the short message service. An engineer can use the software to remotely acknowledge or clear alarms, or review the site's alarm history. Engineers can initiate a secure session with remote equipment by simply clicking on the appropriate site icon.

Once the problem has been corrected, a clearance report can be produced to describe the solution that cleared the alarm. The alarm history can be reviewed at any time by site, site group or for all sites.
