series is a multi-user, multi-tasking, communications management device based on the Linux operating system. It contains no moving parts and provides a highly secure and reliable platform for the provision of a number of communications based applications and services.
This flexible hardware and software approach adopted by Data Track in the design of the Tracker 2700 enables a whole variety of solutions to be provided in a cost effective and highly efficient manner. |

Hardware
Data Track has adopted a modular approach to the Tracker 2700 hardware construction, allowing it to offer units in a variety of build standards to match application requirements. Solutions can be provided with just single Ethernet and serial connectivity or with a fully equipped unit. Options include:
- One or more Ethernet ports
- One or more serial ports
- One or more modems
- 4 or 24 hour UPS
- A local terminal port
- Digital inputs and outputs
- A GSM modem
- Free standing or 1U 19" Rack chassis
- Mains and / or DC power input
The units are robust and reliable and are built to ISO 9000 series quality standards.
Software
The use of Linux has allowed Data Track to provide a highly efficient and stable multi-user, multi-tasking operating system. This platform is complimented by the use of the Python scripting language that enables the rapid production of customised menus and applications by Data Track or its development partners.
Firewall
A full Linux firewall is fitted as standard. This can be used to control access to connected devices down to IP address and port level. Any number of Username / Password combinations can be set up, each with a unique profile.
Secure Menu System
The Tracker can be configured to provide users with individual or group based menus that can be easily customised to suit application requirements. It is not possible for a user to break out of the menu structure to the operating system.
Restricted Answering
For in-band calls to the Tracker, the modem supports CLI / ANI restricted answering. This identifies the calling number and will not answer the call unless it matches a user-specified list.
Local Alarm Management
The Tracker 2700 can receive alarms from serial devices, detect digital status alarms and can collect SNMP traps and relay these to a management system using an Ethernet or dialup network connection. Alarm traps can be converted to an ASCII string for non-SNMP management systems. AN SNMP MIB for the Tracker is available. The Tracker is capable of reporting its own internal alarms as well as alarms from connected devices.
A powerful alarm capture, filter and reporting capability makes the Tracker the ideal choice for alarm monitoring applications. The filtering capability ensures that only those alarms of interest are reported thus reducing the load at a management center. Alarms can be filtered on severity, frequency, time of day, date of week etc. Reporting can be to one or more management locations.
Local Equipment Test
The Tracker 2700 can optionally be configured to routinely 'ping' equipment, such as an Ethernet based PBX or router to ensure that it is still available. This test can be performed at regular intervals on a 24 x 7 basis. If the device does not answer, the Tracker 2700 can raise an alarm.
Comfort Alarm
The Tracker can be configured to regularly report its own status to a central management system to confirm that it is still alive and functioning correctly.
Audit Trail
An audit trail can be enabled to record the activity of each user in a telnet session. The Tracker will record the username, password, and session start and end times and all commands sent both to connected devices and to the Tracker itself.
UPS Option
The Tracker can be supplied with its own internal UPS of up to 24 hours duration. The UPS keeps the unit fully functional during power outages and can report a power fail alarm immediately or after a user selectable duration.
Data Storage
32MB of memory is provided as standard for the storage of user data with a further 64MB available as an option. Data can be retrieved using FTP. The Tracker can be set to FIFO or store and forward mode and a memory x% full alarm is available.
Dial Through (Toll) Fraud Detection
The Tracker 2700 can be programmed to search CDR records as they are produced to look for possible fraudulent calls. The search criteria are highly configurable and an alarm can be raised should suspicious calls be detected e.g. a tandem call to an international destination during a weekend.
Application Specific Scripts
The powerful and highly configurable Python scripting language can be used to provide a comprehensive range of application specific tasks to run on the Tracker. The scripts can have access to any of the Trackers communications ports as well as incoming or stored data and can be used to provide customised menus and alarms. Up to 20MB of system memory is set aside for running one or more scripts.
Remote Configuration
The Tracker can have its complete operating system and configuration upgraded from a central management system. Application scripts can be uploaded to a Tracker in a similar manner.
