Introduction
The Tracker 2710 is intended as an entry level, cost-effective device where the prime requirement is for secure remote access to Ethernet connected equipment using a dial-in modem. The unit will have all the general capabilities of the standard Tracker 2700 but will feature a simple method of configuring the initial set-up by an installer or customer and will be highly secure in operation.
Installation
On installation an engineer or the customer will be given the facility to input the Tracker IP address and the IP addresses of up to two other devices. In the event that an IP address has been entered incorrectly then the facility will be provide for the address or addresses to be re-input, this can only be achieved via the Ethernet port. CLI restricted answering can be enabled and configured in a similar manner.
Operation
The Tracker software will enable a CHAP authenticated PPP session using a dial-up connection to the IP address(es) configured during installation. The remote user will not see the Tracker or be able to configure it during normal operation.
Security
The unit will only allow an authenticated user access to one or more IP addresses on a customer network, this is under the control of the customer. Should a remote user require access to other Tracker functionality using a dial-in connection the customer can allow this access. This is achieved by either holding in the security button until a dial-in Telnet session is established or by using special application software via the local Ethernet to perform a similar function. |
